SPUD Research Office Personnel Met BRET
The Department of Science and Technology sponsored the Basic Research Ethics Training (BRET) through the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development and Philippine Health Research Ethics Board. The said training was hosted by Cebu Institute of Medicine in Cebu City. This training was attended by Mrs. Irish Udtohan and Mr. Cliford Kilat, the OIC and the Research Associate of SPUD Research Office, respectively. The resource persons of the said training were Dr. Salome Vios and Dr. Manuel Emerson Donaldo. The participants were from different medical schools and institutions from Bohol, Cebu, and the entire Negros Island. The said training discussed about the different procedures in conducting ethics review on research studies concerning health and social sciences. The training gave emphasis on topics like Scientific Soundness, Principle of Beneficence and Non-Maleficence, and on Informed Consent. The participants were given workshops through role playing and mini case analyses in groups. The SPUD participants actively took part in the event by presenting the outputs of their respective groups. This training will be of great use for SPUD in putting up its own University Research Ethics Committee since all researches will have to pass through an ethics review to make sure that its research outputs are done in accordance with the standard procedures and are scientifically sound. The participants were given a copy of the book National Ethical Guidelines for Health Related Researches (2017) at the end of the training and certificates.
