  • RESEARCH AGENDA FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2018-2019


    This is our institution’s research agenda/thrusts for this school year. The following are adopted from the national research agenda and thrusts of different sectors of our government. The items are picked according to the capability and resources that we have as a university. Herewith is a list of priorities from the fields of Science, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Health and Wellness, Social Science, and Education. Each department is encouraged to anchor researches on which of the priorities listed below for the greater chance of outputs to be accepted and presented in different conventions across the country and even on the international level.

    HEALTH AND WELLNESS

    1. Clinical evaluation of herbal medicines for hyperuremia and constipation
    2. Pre-clinical screening of plants for TB and malaria
    3. Clinical studies of plants for TB and malaria
    4. Basic research on tuba-tuba and yacon
    5. Traditional knowledge on health and establishment of digital library
    6. Development of drugs using local materials
    7. Development/production of drugs using imported materials
    8. Development and testing of personal care products from local materials

    SOCIAL SCIENCE

    1. Research on language
    2. Language in basic instruction
    3. Review of social researchers which have been carried out
    4. Policy studies and policy formulation
    5. Development of a social science information network
    6. Research utilization on less-department lingo in various disciplines
    7. The role of science for service development
    8. A Study on Filipino investors
    9. Social science information network: raising general awareness of social science
    10. Research on indigenous technology and knowledge, and specific examples of these
    11. Cultural tourism
    12. Alternative support systems for innovative industries
    13. The issue/issues on patenting
    14. How people correct/adopt/resist new technology
    15. Research management and the culture of research
    16. Cultural/social resource management

    EDUCATION

    1. Basic research to generate new knowledge and advance the frontiers in the various disciplines
    2. Research in aid of policy/plan formulation and implementation particularly in education
    3. Research aimed at producing/adapting education technologies and developing education programs in cutting edge fields such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, ICT, materials science, etc.
    4. R & D in aid of national/regional development

    Consistent with the Medium term Plan for the Development of Higher Education 20052010 and the New Higher Education Highway Toward a Knowledge-based Economy, research shall be encouraged in the following clusters of disciplines:

    • Science and Mathematics
    • Education and Teacher Training
    • Health and health profession
    • Information and Communication Technology
    • Engineering
    • Environmental Science
    • Humanities Social Sciences

    Priority Research Areas in Education and Education Management

    1. Program/curricular studies on higher education – including assessment of present   programs/curricula for purposes of determining how these could be improved/reengineered as well as international benchmarking of best practices towards the development of new programs/curricula in leading edge disciplines

    2. Policy-oriented studies – research on the various dimensions of policy formulation,  implementation, monitoring, and evaluation focusing on (but not limited to) the following: financing of higher education and cost sharing in higher education, economics of higher education, governance and management of higher education, accreditation and other quality assurance mechanisms, rationalization of higher education, internationalization of higher education, access and equity measures, and student financing models

    3. Research on quality and standards in the context of: a. international rankings and global benchmarking, b. quality assurance systems, c. equivalency, d. redefining classifications of HEIs

    4. Technology and education
    5. Model building studies
    6. Institutional development studies
    7. Manpower demand and supply studies
    8. Graduate tracer studies
    9. Other research topics considered by the Commission in response to emerging needs of the country.
