“To begin something new is always amazing.”

St. Paul University Dumaguete formally launched its Annual Academic Opening with the theme “Mainstreaming Interculturality in Paulinian Education: Solidarity Begins Where Individualism Ends” last July 13, 2018 at the Fr. Louis Chauvet Hall (FLCH) with the new Program Chair of the College of Arts and Education, Ms. Trina Claire S. Ampalayo, as the lady of ceremonies. The program started with the entrance of colors and the processional of the SPC sisters, lay administrators, and the faculty members. The prayer was led by Ms. Angela Kristine Ocao who introduced the three symbolic gifts to embrace Academic Year 2018-2019, namely: Bible for the gifts of understanding and wisdom, plant in the jar with water for the gifts of counsel, fortitude, and fear of the Lord, and Book of Gospels for the gifts of knowledge and piety.

University President Sr. Joseline R. Lasala, SPC greeted everyone with excitement and vigor which was then followed by the assignment of faculty and staff members to the different departments and offices done by Human Resource Manager Atty. Ophelia Arbon.
A dance number performed by selected students from the various colleges set the mood for the day’s program. In line with this year’s theme, the dances were inspired from the different rich cultures of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

After the inspiring message of Sr. Ma. Dina Alilain, SPC, another dance number was presented by the same chosen students of the colleges. The celebration was then concluded with a prayer led by Ms. Trina Claire Ampalayo. Then the recessional followed afterwards.
The event showed understanding and the aspect of appreciating one’s culture that creates ripples of change in the world.
