SPUD Welcomes New President - The New President of St. Paul University Dumaguete (SPUD) is Sr. Joseline R. Lasala, SPC effective June 01, 2016. She is a Licensed Chemical Engineer, Educator, Administrator and Environmental Advocate. Meanwhile, Sr. Nintha Lucilla N. Baldado, SPC, Outgoing President of SPUD will take her new post in Davao City.
Sister Joseline originated from Del Carmen (Siargao Island) of the Province of Surigao del Norte. She finished her elementary education at Del Carmen Central School as Class Salutatorian in 1971, and her secondary education at Southwestern University, Cebu City in 1975 as an Academic Honor. She graduated her baccalaureate degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of San Jose – Recoletos in 1980 and passed the Licensure Examination for Chemical Engineers in 1981 thereafter she took her Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) Major in Educational Management at the University of San Carlos, Cebu City where she completed in 1995.
She obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Environmental Studies from Miriam College (Formerly Maryknoll College) in Quezon City, Metro Manila. Her wide understanding of environmental advocacy led her to do a Research Study entitled “Designing an Environmental Monitoring Program in Paulinian School” which she presented at Alliant International University in San Diego, California, USA during the 16th World Conference on Education of the World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI) last August 20 – 24, 2014. She is an Accredited Pollution Control Officer (PCO) and she is part of the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) of the DENR – Environmental Management Bureau in the National Capital Region from 2013 up to the present.
Prior to her religious life, she was a Chemical Engineer of the Manila Mining Corporation assigned in Placer, Surigao del Norte, then she entered the Department of Education in Surigao del Norte as Secondary Education Faculty. Her passion for educational enhancement prompted her to be part of St. Paul University Surigao City (Formerly San Nicolas College) as Faculty from 1983 until 1984.
On April 1984 she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres (SPC). She held numerous assignments around the country as a Vice-President for Administrative Affairs, Faculty Member, General Services Officer, Community Superior, School Administrator/Principal, Chair of the Environmental Stewardship Program and Pollution Control Officer in the different SPC institutions.
Before her transfer to SPUD, she served as Vice-President for Administrative Affairs and Chair of the Center for Environmental Stewardship & Pollution Control Officer at St. Paul University Manila.
Her installation as the 12th President of St. Paul University Dumaguete is slated on August 30, 2016, 4PM within a Eucharistic Celebration to be presided by the Most. Rev. Julito B. Cortes, D.D. in presence of invited Dignitaries, Government Leaders, Presidents and Heads of various Schools, Colleges & Universities in the City, Province and other Paulinian Institutions around the country.
In an interview, she pointed out that she will work on realistic plans, willing to continue all the viable programs and projects initiated by the previous leadership, uphold the academic excellence of the university, maintain all global standards and accreditations as well as strengthen the symbols of a catholic educational institution anchored on spirituality, excellence and service. Her greatest challenge now is the transition period of the country’s K – 12 Program but she is optimistic that everything will work on positively.
