SPUD, DOST-7, and PHREB Leads 3-Day REC Orientation and SOP Training
From September 24 to 26, 2024, St. Paul University Dumaguete in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology Region VII (DOST-7) and Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) through the Central Visayas Research Ethics Committee (CV-REC), spearheaded a three-day workshop beginning with the Research Ethics Committee (REC) Orientation on the first day followed by the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Training.
This initiative led by the SPUD Office of Research and Publications with the aid of Dr. Manuel Emerson S. Donaldo, Chairperson of CV-REC, aimed to equip institutions across Central Visayas with the tools to establish and strengthen their RECs.
The workshop provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of research ethics and SOP development, ensuring that their institutions maintain high ethical standards in research. Throughout the workshop, attendees engaged in practical exercises, assessing the structure, consistency, and completeness of their own SOPs. The event culminated with the showcase of recently created SOPs and collaborative conversations about potential enhancements in the future.
This opportunity highlighted the critical role that research ethics play in promoting responsible research.
