You Matter: Suicide Prevention Training for Peer Advocates by SPU Dumaguete
St. Paul University Dumaguete Guidance Center, in collaboration with the College of Arts, Science, and Education - Psychology Program, and in partnership with DepEd Bayawan City Division, together with fourth-year psychology interns, facilitated a one-day training entitled as Suicide Prevention Part 2: You Matter Recognizing and Responding to Suicidal Indicators – A Training Guide for Peer Advocates last October 21, 2024 held at the Janines’ New Building, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental. The training aimed to equip peer advocates with essential skills in suicide prevention. Participants learned to identify early signs of suicidal thoughts and distress in themselves or others, understand risk factors such as mental illness, substance abuse, and trauma, and recognize protective factors like support systems, coping skills, and access to mental health services. Together, we strive to create a supportive community where everyone knows they matter.
